SnailblazerPlatforming Game A lighthearted platforming game documenting a snail’s discovery of legs and the consequences therein Project Page View fullsize This game was my first swing at a platformer, and at that, a polished, finished game. We knew the direction was to be a platformer but struggled to come up with ideas until the image of a snail using it's eyes as legs came to me. It was goofily absurd and took a little convincing but the idea took hold. View fullsize View fullsize The original concepts were much grander, with a metroidvania format and vast levels planned, but with the time allotted, those ideas were retooled for a platformer. View fullsize For this project, I was put in charge of programming and art while classmate Jun Shim was in charge of level design. I was experienced in programming but this was a real growing experience for pixel art. Finding a consistent style, blocking out figures, spending days on a walk cycle, it was truly a great time for experimentation and exploration. View fullsize I even tackled the cinematic approach, programming cutscenes, text boxes, and even cinematic black bars. The story didn't end up phenomenal, but I liked the goofy lighthearted tone and am proud of everything accomplished. I only wish we had enough time/drive to add sound.
